Christine Mercier's Online Memorial Photo

Memorial Curator

Memorial Biography

Christine was born Thanksgiving day of '64, merely because the doctor told her mother there would be a push prize for delivering that day and quite possibly because his Thanksgiving meal was getting cold waiting for him and he wished to return to it. Growing up she loved to play soccer and was the all league leading defender on an all boys team. She enlisted in the Army just before her senior year of high school and learned how to sleep standing up at basic training. She flew by the seat of her pants, once by spending a weekend in LA sleeping on the beach and exploring. She loved her Jesus and held on to her faith while battling the most difficult challenge bestowed upon anyone; mental illness. She fought it bravely and hung on as best she could to take care of her daughter, Nancy Lynn. She is preceded in death by her father Walter Mercer, 2 brothers Walter and Bill and is finally meeting her older sister we never got a chance to know. She is survived by her mother Nancy Mercer, her daughter Nancy Lynn (Shane) Duchaine, granddaughters Grace and Callie and grandson Sebastian. Sisters Bonnie (Jeff) Sweet, Wendy (Tim) Robinson and brother Kevin (Melissa) Mercer and 3 nephews and 3 nieces. Service will be held on Wednesday November 21, 2018 at Holy Spirit Parish at 2230 Lake Michigan Dr NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 There will be a time to visit with the family at 10 am with a mass at 11 am followed by a luncheon. Christine is finally at peace after being brave for so long. She was handed a life sentence no one deserves but made the steps to fight it back with pride. We are all so proud of you, until we see you again.
